The 12 greatest runway looks of Drag Race UK series five

Michael Marouli’s black heart look is my Roman Empire

| UPDATED

If there is one thing that’s going to be absolutely guaranteed with every season of Drag Race UK, it’s that RuPaul’s British girlies are going to bring it to you on the runway. Drag Race UK season five was no different, with the runway looks for this season proving that one thing the queens are going to do is serve. Last night saw Ginger Johnson be crowned the latest winner, and with all the queens walking the runway for the last time there’s not better opportunity to look back over the season and run through my 12 greatest runway looks of Drag Race UK season five – ranked.

12. Michael Marouli – Poofs on Parade

Annoyingly not the best picture of The Marouli’s look here, but this runway from the roast challenge last week is exactly what you want to be wearing when you get a third deserved win. I love that you just never know what Michael’s going to serve. The colours on this are so great.

11. Banksie – Slaycation

Via BBC

For me, Banksie was the fashion queen of Drag Race UK series five – her runway looks were just next level. A perfect eye for fashion. A lot of queens chose a wintery theme for the Slaycation runway, but this animal print feast for the eyes was the best of the lot. The perfect look to storm out Untucked in, methinks.

10. Cara Melle – Heart Ons

Cara killed it a lot on the runway – but with Heart Ons she stepped out of her glam comfort zone to give us gore. I liked a lot how this runway saw the queens interpret the brief in very different ways, but the horror severity of this one was a standout when other queens played it more safe. So striking.

9. Kate Butch – Pajamarama

Kate Butch will be the first person to say her runway looks this season were not her strong suit, but on the week she finally clinched her win she looked the best she’d looked all season. We’ve seen grey scale looks on Drag Race before, and this stands up there with the best of them. Theatre, darling.

8. DeDeLicious – Poofs on Parade

Say what you want about DeDe’s run on season five of Drag Race UK, but you can’t take away from her that she looked the most gorgeous she’s ever looked from her runway looks when she finally got eliminated. Everything is just so slay.

7. Michael Marouli – Fierce Impressions

Via BBC

Not crazy on the wig, but forgiving it for this instantly cool look with severe shape and couture details that make it impossible to look away from. Michael Marouli always keeps you guessing.

6. Tomara Thomas – Finale

Via BBC

She might have come third last night, but fashion wise Tomara Thomas was the MVP of the finale. She’s looked gorgeous all season, but seeing her dress so opulently was just thrilling. She’s never looked more beautiful.

5. Vicki Vivacious – Heart Ons

Via BBC

There was a trend this season of queens being eliminated in their best looks. This absolute slay was Vicki’s best, pure drama, a scary beat – she looks like a Marvel supervillain in the best way.

4. Cara Melle – Fierce Impressions

Via BBC

Cara Melle was the name on everyone’s lips before Drag Race UK series five – a London legend everyone was anticipating to leave no crumbs with her runway looks. On episode one, her first runway, she proved everyone right, The textures and colours of this are just unreal. She looks beyond majestic.

3. Michael Marouli – Heart Ons

I’m just obsessed with this look. I could stare at it all day. It’s just inspired. It’s my Roman Empire.

2. Banksie – Pop icons

One of the best Bowie tributes I’ve ever seen. Period.

1. Banksie – Purr-fect Looks

It’s one thing to buy an amazing look from a designer, it’s another thing to make the best look of the season from pet paraphernalia in the Werk Room. Just astonishing. This is FASHION, baby
