Georges MAFS UK shamed

Justice for MAFS UK’s Georges: Being silly on Twitch and talking about sex is normal

God forbid a man’s partial to a squat from time to time

As this year’s MAFS UK plods along, with chaos and drama spilling into ridiculous territory, there’s one side issue that’s really starting to grind my gears – the attitude towards Georges. At first, I kind of got it. He came on the show seemingly talking about nothing but big boobs, although I assume this is some hefty editing work from E4 to create this storyline of Georges being a bosom besotted child too immature for bride Peggy. “I was the most hated man ever to have appeared on the show because I mentioned boobs,” he admits. “I haven’t tried to defend my actions. I’ve just gone ‘I’m sorry’ because what I said and did was a previous me, it was a very locker room Georges. And it wasn’t sensible,” said Georges, and it was noble of him. But as the preview for tonight shows Peggy storming off after yet another thing she deems unacceptable from her husband, I’m here to back Georges – nothing he’s done on MAFS UK has been bad in the slightest, and he needs to stop being shamed for being himself.

This has been bothering me for a while, actually. MAFS UK is all about celebrating the individual, and when the experts match people up – even when it seems they choose polar opposites to cause friction and drama for the sake of telly – the general gist is that the relationship is about compromise and the two learn from each other’s personalities and meet in the middle. In Georges case, I feel like his personality is being suppressed.

Georges is a big, warm character. I’ll be candid – since covering MAFS UK, me and him have spoken and he’s full of humour, takes any comments made in articles about his behaviour on the chin and just all round has a great energy in my opinion. I’m 27 and live I guess a pretty modern and forward thinking lifestyle. Me and my friends talk openly about sex, and we’re very online. Someone doing some squats fully clothed on Twitch is not weird to me in the slightest. Someone daring to mention the word rimming, or float the concept of partaking in giving or receiving a good ol’ rim, would be a completely normal conversation to have. I accept that not everyone is so open, but I feel like the demonisation of Georges for discussing it as a sex act is so bizarre. The episode editing stops and stutters over it, cutting to Peggy’s unimpressed face as if he’s just suggested the most bizarre, deeply uncomfortable kink anyone’s ever heard. When in reality, discussing the possibility of a rim is no different than any other conversation around normal sex. It’s 2023, for god’s sake.

I think maybe 10 years ago, there was an attitude that rimming was more of a thing for us gays. I think if a fella like Georges was like, yeah, I love rimming – it would ruffle prudish feathers. It seems like Peggy is trapped in her Take Me Out days, a time where men and women are clinging to boring stereotypes and a clutch on normality. It is normal to talk with your romantic partner about rimming, and it’s normal for someone to go on Twitch and do a squat every now and then. And if you think it isn’t, perhaps this relationship isn’t worth it.

Tonight’s MAFS UK episode preview shows Georges shamed for having another video that Peggy can’t stomach is showing no signs of stopping, and I was frustrated last night to see the experts say Georges has been single because of “the old Georges”. Extraverted men shouldn’t have to reign themselves in to be somebody they’re not to find love. It’s frustrating.
