Matthew Modine has come up with his own theory about Papa not actually dying

There are so many theories at this point I can’t keep up

Dr. Brenner, aka Papa, had a reaaaaaally long death in Stranger Things four. Every time we thought he had died the camera moved back to him and he was still moving! It put us all right on edge. We saw him take his final breath but as we know that’s not always concrete evidence that a character is dead, or at least it’s not for Matthew who plays him.

Matthew Modine isn’t convinced his character, Papa, is actually dead and his reason behind it is actually pretty believable. He pointed out Brenner nearly died several times in Stranger Things. First, when One escaped in 1979, second when Eleven ran away in 1983 and then at the end of season one.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Matthew was asked whether he would agree his character is actually dead. He said: “No, I wouldn’t. Because I wouldn’t want him to be dead.”

He continued to talk about a few things which don’t add up for him. How did he survive the demogorgon, One and when Eleven tried to use her power against him he stops her and says “You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you?”. Matthew hints at Papa having some sort of superpower which helps him survive.

The Duffer brothers haven’t actually mentioned any plans for Dr. Brenner going into season five so I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether Matthew’s theory is true or not.
