Revealed: Everything that went down on Love Island before Sherif got kicked out

He wasn’t allowed to say bye to the other contestants

| UPDATED

On Monday it was announced that Love Island contestant, Sherif Lanre, has been booted off Love Island for breaking the rules. After days of silence, people came up with some pretty mad theories as to why he was kicked off the show.

But he has now revealed in an interview with The Sun on Sunday that it was because he accidentally kicked Molly-Mae in the crotch as they were play fighting.

Describing the incident, he jokingly told Tommy Fury that it was a c*** punch. Hours later he was escorted out of the villa, without being allowed to say bye to any of the other Islanders.

But what actually went down hours before he was kicked off?

Sherif and Molly-Mae were play fighting in the bathroom before going to bed

Sherif recalled that the play fighting incident happened in the early hours of Monday as Tommy, Molly-Mae and Sherif were preparing to go to bed.

He said: “Molly-Mae was in the unisex bathroom about to brush her teeth and Tommy and I went in to do the same.

“I gave her a jokey look and she turned round and said something like, ‘Do you want some?’ She was just messing around.

“We started acting out these karate moves. She punched me on the arm in a jokey way.

“I did not hit her back but at some point I kicked upwards and caught her by accident.

He accidentally kicked her in the groin area when doing karate moves

“I didn’t mean to. I realised too late that she had moved forwards.

“My toes crashed into her groin and I guess the impact of us moving in the same direction made it quite hard, but it wasn’t that hard.

“Molly-Mae crouched over in a defensive position and I was worried I had hurt her."

Sherif added: “I did kick Molly-Mae in the groin area but it was an accident and she 100 per cent was not injured afterwards.

“She flinched and bent over to protect herself. Then she stood up and seemed fine and we started laughing about it."

He used the c-word to describe the incident

Sherif continued: “I reached out my arm to check she was OK but she stood up and made a face that said, ‘You’re being cheeky.’ I turned to Tommy and said, ‘That’s a c*** punt.’

“We were all laughing and kept talking afterwards about different things, I can’t remember what."

Molly-Mae wasn't mad and he doesn't believe she made a complaint against him

Sherif said: “Molly-Mae must have heard it but didn’t seem offended so there was no need to apologise. Tommy and I went downstairs to go to bed after brushing our teeth. Molly-Mae came down two minutes later.

“We all said ‘good night’ and went to sleep. There’s no way she made a complaint.”

He was dragged out of bed and wasn't allowed to say bye to anyone

ITV producers in Majorca got Sherif out of bed around lunchtime. He said: “I think they got me up two hours earlier than everyone else. I think it was about 12.30pm.

“There were two directors and they asked me to explain myself. I told them we were just messing around but they said I had broken the code of conduct and it had been decided by someone high up that I had to leave. I was shown a straight red card.

“My mum asked later exactly what part of the code I had breached and they said it related to ‘any other behaviour deemed inappropriate by producers’.

“I was sent home without the chance to pack my bags or say goodbye to the other contestants. I was treated like a criminal over a simple mistake.”

He was made to listen to a transcript of what he said to Tommy but thinks it was taken out of context

The producers made Sherif listen to a transcript of what happened.

"It was only my part of the dialogue and it was read in a completely monotone voice, which took everything out of context," he said.

Sherif thinks he was a victim of racism

Sherif said: "I was the only black man in the villa and I was kicked out after ten days.

“In my opinion, what happened was unconscious racism.

“There was, I felt, sexism. I feel I wouldn’t have been given that red card if I was a white woman.”

Sherif claims another contestant said the n-word when rapping to songs, but nothing happened to him

He told The Sun on Sunday that there was a Love Island contestant he didn't want to name, who rapped along to songs containing the n-word and the producers never checked if Sherif was okay with that.

He said: “The same rules did not seem to apply to the other contestants. There was one guy, who I will not name, who repeatedly used the ‘n-word’ as he rapped in front of me. He said it two or three times and he was not pulled aside even though the code forbids racist language.

“And no one asked me if I was OK afterwards, so where is the duty of care?

“Another time a load of the girls were slapping my bum and no one questioned them. But what would have happened to me if I had slapped a girl’s bum? It is double standards."

This detail has now been edited out of the original article.

He was previously told off by the producers for using the word "lighty"

He told The Sun on Sunday: “I was talking about Amber to two guys. I think it was Joe and Michael.

“I told them, ‘A lighty like her would be hugely appreciated in London. Boys would be calling her all the time’.

“I said, ‘Maybe it’s a London thing and they don’t use it in other parts of the country’. But she told me, ‘No, we use it in Newcastle all the time. I don’t think it’s offensive’.

“I also spoke to Joe and Michael about it later. I guess that means that I used the term more than once.

“I don’t think lighty is a bad term. But I can see why they don’t want you to use it on TV.

“Some people might get offended. I know you can’t call a black person a darky. So I guess lighty isn’t a good word either.”

He is gutted to have left when things were hotting up between him and Anna

Sherif said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw her for the first time because I had been following her on Instagram for about a year and I had always fancied her.

“I was like, ‘I know you.’ Once we got talking she surprised me, but in a positive way.

“She was very down-to-earth and we had a real connection.

“Our relationship was just reaching a key moment when I was kicked out. I hope to see Anna again but for now they’ve ruined that romance for me — and that’s hard to take.”

Sherif maintains his innocence and thinks the situation was blown out of proportion

He said: “I know I have been stupid and let myself down but I was not being malicious.

“This has been blown out of all proportion and I have been made to look like a terrible person when I am not.”

Sherif was told to not speak of the incident once he left the villa

He said: “The producers told me they would draft the statement for me. They told me it would damage my reputation if I stated the real reason I was being kicked out so they were leaving that bit out.

“I felt like I signed the statement too quickly and I wish I had cleared this up straight away. I never masturbated in the villa and I’ve never taken cocaine so to say I was kicked out over that is ridiculous. And I didn’t have a fight with Anton, I got along with him.”

Sherif is now back in London and meeting with the show's psychologists

Sherif is now back at mum Diana’s home in South London where he has been followed by ITV security guards and is having meetings with the show's psychologists.

But Love Island fans are still outraged by ITV's decision and want justice for Sherif

Twitter user Tanya called out the hypocrisy of Ellie being allowed to remain on the show after calling Georgia an ugly c*** last year.

People have also been calling out the producers for not stepping in when Maura made Tommy feel really uncomfortable when she tried to kiss him in Friday's episode.
