Sign spotted in UCL building condemns culprit for ‘repeatedly urinating on the floor’

A sign asking people not to urinate on the floor has been spotted in University College London’s Institute of Education, causing a splash on social media. 

A laminated notice urging the culprit to refrain from further outbursts was spotted by a keen-eyed UCL medicine student, who posted it on their TikTok account with the caption: “What I learned at uni today.”

The university’s appeal demanded, in bold lettering: “DO NOT URINATE IN THIS AREA.”

“It has been noted that someone is repeatedly urinating on the floor in this area,” the sign explained, before asking: “Please stop this.”

One TikTok user commented: “If there’s a sign, there’s a story.”

Another another referenced Ramsey Hall’s infamous “phantom defecator,” who had previously been rumoured to have left their mark on student accommodation common areas, including, but not limited to, the showers.

Although the most recent sign was still being displayed in the IOE as of September 2026, a UCL spokesperson informed The London Tab: “We dealt with a public nuisance issue two years ago. We put up a notice and the behaviour stopped.”

Why did someone think it was a good idea urinate on the floor in the first place? We’ll leave it up to you to decide, but whatever the answer is, our thoughts go out to the poor cleaning staff that had to deal with the aftermath of it.
