Here’s why Heated Rivalry wasn’t part of the 2026 Emmys awards, and Connor Storrie didn’t go

The 2026 edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony took place on 14th September. The Emmys are supposed to celebrate the best of TV and whatnot, so why wasn’t Heated Rivalry nominated for any awards? Why didn’t Connor Storrie attend the event, even though he actually *was* nominated for an Emmy? Here are proper answers.

Here’s why Heated Rivalry didn’t get any Emmy nominations

Heated Rivalry was broadcast between 1st June 2025 and 21st May 2026 – that’s the window when shows need to have premiered in order to qualify for the 2026 Emmys. However, the sixth rule on the “Criteria for Eligibility” for the 78th Emmy Awards states: “Foreign television production is ineligible unless it is the result of a co-production (both financially and creatively) between US and foreign partners, which precedes the start of production, and with a purpose to be shown on US television.”

Although Heated Rivalry was broadcast in the US on HBO Max, the show was produced and financed by Canadian companies. It wasn’t a co-production with any US company. So, it doesn’t qualify for the Emmys. Heated Rivalry would be applicable for the International Emmy Awards, which will be handed out on 23rd November 2026.

He did nab his first-ever Emmy nomination, but not for Heated Rivalry. Connor Storrie was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, in honour of when he hosted Saturday Night Live back in February.

So, 19 Emmys were dished out at the televised ceremony on 15th September. Awards for another 101 categories were presented at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremonies on 5th and 6th September. Connor Storrie did show up to this event, and took his mother Linda as his guest.

Connor Storrie didn’t win – the prize for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series was given to Rob Reiner posthumously for his performance in The Bear.
