What Maya Jama was like on the set of Netflix’s The Gentleman, according to the cast
‘She was nervous because she’s not done this before’
The Love Island presenter Maya Jama landed her first big acting role in season two of the Netflix show The Gentleman. Maya Jama pops up in the first and fourth episodes as Aisha, a glamorous (and morally ambiguous) friend of Susie Glass. Maya Jama’s acting performance has been, er, somewhat critically divisive. So, here’s what the cast of The Gentleman say Maya Jama was like to work with on set.
Jasmine Blackborow, who plays Lady Charlotte Horniman (aka Charly), told the Daily Star: “She was absolutely gorgeous on set and she was nervous because she’s not done this before. She was there running her lines again and again and when she did it she was just such a pro.”
Kaya Scodelario – who stars as Susie Glass – actually DMed Maya Jama after she was cast in season two. Kaya wanted to prepare Kaya for what filming on set would be like. Kaya explained to Grazia: “I just said, ‘Hey, babe, heads up! This is going to not be what you expect. Be ready to be on your toes and trust the process.’

“I knew how intimidating it is stepping into a new part of your career and coming from a working class background. I just wanted her to know that I’m a girls’ girl.”
Maya Jama has also detailed what her dynamic with Guy Ritchie was like during filming. Apparently, he was “really kind and nice”.
She told Variety: “He doesn’t feel as intimidating as you’d think, being who he is. He’s very personable and he would be like ‘yeah, you’re doing well’, and reassure me, which was really nice.”
Maya Jama will reportedly reprise her role in season three of The Gentleman – so we’ll be seeing even more of Aisha in the future.
