Rags, riches and everything in between: The ultimate guide to your Freshers’ Week wardrobe
Whether you’re a heel-wearing Scouse Prinny or a ‘Skins’ Bristol Girlie, this guide is your Bible for Freshers’ Week fashion
University is the perfect opportunity for reinventing yourself, starting with your style. For most new Liverpool students, Freshers’ Week is a crucial time to establish a new vibe as you enter a new and exciting chapter. But what should you actually be wearing? Fear not, this ancient old third year has been there and done that- even if that has included many questionable fashion choices over the years. Welcome to your ultimate Freshers’ Week fashion guide.
Comfy and Casual

Starting strong with arguably one of the most important aspects of Fresher’s fashion. Whilst many Freshers focus on their going out fits, have you considered what you will wear for the hungover Gregg’s trip with your new flatmates that you inevitably overshared to last night?
It is truly essential to have at least a handful of trackies to stick on when you wake up with the taste of Raz fat frog still lingering in your mouth. Don’t feel pressured to look your best every day: it’s part of the Freshers experience to walk around like a corpse in your first week.
We all know from experience that you partied too hard the night before, and there is nothing better than sticking on a pair of Harri joggers and a baggy hoodie when you aren’t feeling the freshest in your first week (No pun intended.)
Jeans and a nice top (a classic x)

As basic as it may be, jeans and a nice top are every uni students’ holy grail. 2pm lecture? Jeans and a nice top. Pints at the Sphinx? Jeans and a nice top. Winter night out? You guessed it: Jeans and a nice top. You literally can’t go wrong.
For all my Freshers gals out there, bring 10x more tops than you think you’ll need: there’s always a flatmate in distress with nothing to wear. Another benefit of the classic jeans and a nice top combo is that it is perfect for Liverpool’s unpredictable weather, as you can also effortlessly dress it up or down depending on the occasion.
Shoes that could survive a nuclear war (or even worse, Raz)

This next Freshers’ Week fashion tip is absolutely crucial. You 100 per cent need at least one pair of versatile and reliable shoes to get you through the many fever dreams and side quests that Freshers’ Week will inevitably bring. If you’re planning on wearing your most prized possession during Freshers’ Week, be prepared to scrub 100 layers of grime off the morning after.
A moment of silence for the Scouse Prinny’s who manage a stiletto for every night out. Respect, ladies.
An endless supply of PJs

Nothing on Earth is worse than having to do a load of laundry using circuit laundry. Suddenly, you’ll have three odd socks, half of your clothes are stained pink from that red bra you forgot was in there, and you’ll vow to take all of your washing home for your mum every weekend.
News flash. It’s time to grow up guys, you’ve officially flown the nest. This is why a hefty amount of pyjamas is an absolute essential in Freshers’ Week. It means that when you wake up in a mysterious puddle of last night’s cheesy chips, you can simply pop on another pair.
However, you should beware that if you get caught roaming the halls of your accommodation at 2am in your purple bunny oodie you may get the reputation of ‘pyjama girl’ from those in surrounding flats (speaking from personal experience).
