Ben Affleck’s daughter Violet is always seen wearing a mask – and there’s a very good reason why
No, it’s not a fashion statement
For many people, masks were a part of daily life during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as restrictions eased, most have gradually stopped wearing them. But Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s daughter, Violet, is not one of those people and has been frequently seen out and about wearing a mask.
Violet is the eldest daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, and she has two younger siblings: 16-year-old Seraphina and 13-year-old Samuel. At 19, she is studying public health at Yale University and recently published a research paper in Yale’s Global Health Review, comparing the response to the LA wildfires with the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
So why does she wear a mask?

Violet has openly spoken about her reason. She was diagnosed with a “post-viral condition” in 2019. She described this during a speech for the LA County Board of Supervisors last year. “I’m OK now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,” she said.
This experience has clearly shaped her views on public health and personal safety. Even long after mask mandates ended, Violet explained that wearing a mask helps protect vulnerable people in the community. She also called for policies that support public health measures. She said counties should “expand the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment, and most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason.”

Violet’s advocacy hasn’t stopped at local events. She also spoke at the United Nations on 23 September. There, she urged world leaders to take airborne illness seriously. “It is neglect of the highest order to look children in the eyes and say, ‘We knew how to protect you, and we didn’t do it,’” she said. She criticised society for pushing to move “back to normal” while downplaying ongoing risks.
According to Tyla, Violet also highlighted the importance of clean air. She called it “just as much of a human right as clean water.” She warned that children may grow up “not know[ing] a world without debilitating pain and exhaustion” caused by long COVID.
Meghan McCain ironically slammed Violet

As expected, Violet’s UN speech stirred reactions. Meghan McCain was particularly critical. She posted that “every single thing about all of this is why people hate nepo babies so much.” She also claimed that Violet “has no business speaking at the UN.” Her post was quickly taken down. People were quick to point out the irony, given McCain’s own famous family background.
So, for Violet, the mask is not a fashion statement. It is a symbol of awareness and protection.
