University of Warwick rises to 7th place in the Guardian University Guide 2026

A dozen courses also ranked in the top 10

The University of Warwick has risen to 7th place in the Guardian University Guide 2026.

In 2025, Warwick ranked 8th, seeing the uni climb one spot in this year’s ranking.

The University of Bath, which previously held 7th place, has slipped to 8th on the table.

12 of the university’s courses also ranked within the top 10 of their respective subject tables.

These include: Language and linguistics (7th), physics (6th), mathematics (5th), economics (6th), general engineering (10th), philosophy (9th), business and management 3rd, sociology and social policy (8th), accounting and finance (2nd), media and film studies (1st), English (5th), and history (8th).

Medicine also saw significant progress, rising eight places to 13th.

Professor Stuart Croft, vice-chancellor and president of the university, said in a statement posted on LinkedIn: “Everyone at Warwick is working hard to deliver internationally-leading teaching and world-class research so that our students have the very best experience alongside the skills needed for future success.”

Warwick placed ahead of several Russell Group institutions in this year’s Guardian rankings, with UCL, King’s College London, Exeter, Birmingham, and Edinburgh all listed lower.

The Guardian University Guide guide offers students and their families detailed insights to support university choices, ranking 66 subjects and evaluating institutions across eight measures, which then form a total out of 100.

These include student-to-staff ratios, entry standards, continuation rates, and graduate outcomes, meaning the proportion of graduates entering professional employment or further study within 15 months.

Warwick has also performed strongly across other national and international rankings.

It was placed 6th in the Daily Mail University Guide — above St Andrews, which came 10th — and 9th in the Complete University Guide 2026, ahead of both UCL and KCL.

On the global stage, Warwick ranked 74th in the QS World University Rankings 2026 with an overall score of 75.2.
