Named and pictured: Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer arrested as social media posts emerge

His dad handed him over to the police

Authorities have now named and pictured the suspect who allegedly killed the right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, September 10, at a college event in Utah.

The suspect has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident. Law enforcement sources told the Daily Mail that Robinson was arrested Thursday night in southern Utah after his father, Matt Robinson, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, contacted authorities. The alleged killer had confessed to his father, who then secured his son until police took him into custody.

Charlie Kirk was at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck by a bullet fired from a nearby building on campus. He died a short time later in the hospital.

The attack happened in front of thousands of students and supporters. Since then, the FBI has released new information about the shooter. Here’s everything we know about Tyler Robinson, the accused shooter of Charlie Kirk .

Who is the suspect?

The alleged shooter is Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Washington, Utah, about 260 miles south of Orem, where the killing took place. Robinson lived with his family in a $600,000 six-bedroom home and was a student at Utah State University on a scholarship.

Robinson has two younger brothers. His mother, Amber Robinson, works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services, a company contracted by the state of Utah to help disabled people.

What was he wearing?

Eyewitnesses described the shooter as wearing dark clothing. Authorities believe the shot was fired from the roof of the Losee Centre, about 200 meters from the stage. 911 callers reported seeing someone in “jeans, a black shirt, a black mask,” and carrying a “long rifle.”

Officials later released images of Robinson wearing a black t-shirt with a bald eagle flying across an American flag, which matched earlier descriptions of the person of interest.

Several videos from the scene appeared to show possible sightings of the shooter. Surveillance footage eventually confirmed a figure leaping off a roof and running into a nearby neighborhood after the shooting.

Authorities initially detained other individuals during the manhunt, but they were later released. Robinson was confirmed as the suspect after his father turned him in.

Is there a murder weapon?

Investigators found a Mauser .30-caliber bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel in the woods. According to the Associated Press, police recovered a spent cartridge from the chamber and found three other rounds loaded in the magazine. The weapon and ammunition are being analysed by law enforcement at a federal lab.

According to CNN, the suspect reportedly left palm impressions, smudges that may contain DNA, and a shoe imprint on the building he climbed down from. Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said this led investigators to conclude the suspect was wearing Converse sneakers.

What else have officials said?

Authorities confirmed Robinson will face the death penalty if convicted.

Former President Donald Trump announced the arrest during a Fox News appearance, saying “someone very close” to the suspect turned him in. On Truth Social, he paid tribute to Kirk, calling him “The Great, and even Legendary Charlie Kirk.” Trump also ordered U.S. flags lowered to half-staff until Sunday evening.
