WhatsApp urges everyone with an iPhone to change this one important setting ASAP

Make sure you do this

WhatsApp has issued a warning about a critical change to their settings that everyone with an Apple iPhone should make ASAP.

They’re urging everyone to make sure that they turn on automatic updates in settings, to ensure you’re protected when WhatsApp adds an important security change.

This alert follows the discovery of a security flaw that could allow hackers to access sensitive information on your device.

The vulnerability, described as “zero-click,” is particularly worrying because it doesn’t require people to click a suspicious link or download a malicious file. Instead, hackers can potentially gain access to your iPhone simply through WhatsApp itself.

Apple has already released an update to address the issue, and now WhatsApp has confirmed that an update is available for iPhone users.

In a statement on its security pages, WhatsApp explained: “We assess that this vulnerability, in combination with an OS-level vulnerability on Apple platforms (CVE-2025-43300), may have been exploited in a sophisticated attack against specific targeted users.”

While the current attack appears to have affected only a small number of people, security experts are urging everyone with an iPhone and WhatsApp installed to update the app immediately.

“WhatsApp and Apple devices are some of the most widely used technologies on the planet, especially among senior executives,” Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager told The Independent.

“That popularity makes them prime targets. Attackers know that if they can find a way in, the payoff is huge. It is why we see significant investment from adversaries in uncovering zero-click vulnerabilities like this one.”

He emphasised that even though cases of exploitation are currently limited, keeping WhatsApp updated is essential for protecting your device.

Although this vulnerability affects only Apple devices, Android users should also turn on automatic updates. This ensures that important security fixes are installed promptly, reducing the risk of future attacks.

To check your iPhone, open the App Store and tap your account profile in the top right-hand corner. Here, you can see which apps need updating and ensure that WhatsApp is running the latest version.

Installing these updates to your iPhone settings is the simplest and most effective way to keep your personal information secure.
