Your guide to Sport Lancaster’s 2025/26 membership schemes

Because we don’t need a brain workout trying to decide what to buy

Ah, the gym. The busiest place on earth in January, then the ghost of New Year’s resolutions past in March.

Luckily for everyone living on campus, there’s an incredible leisure centre right here! Sport Lancaster offers discounted membership prices to students “to encourage physical activity, personal wellbeing, and meeting like-minded people”. That’s a win-win-win for us.

However, measuring up gym prices can be pretty confusing, so here’s our trusty guide to your 2025/26 membership.

The memberships are divided into “Peak”, “Off-Peak”, and “Rock and Racket”. There are also options for Rock and Racket Bolt Ons to the Peak and Off-Peak schemes. Does this all sound really confusing? Yeah, we agree, so let’s break it down.

The memberships can be bought for one month, nine months, or for a full year. If you plan on competing in BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) competitions, your entry to this is included in Sport Lancaster’s 12 month Peak membership.

Peak Membership

The Peak membership costs £44.20 for one month, £303.65 for nine months, £371.20 for a year, or £35.80 per month if you pay by direct debit. This includes the fitness suites, swimming, group exercise classes, and the sauna and steam.

The main benefit of the Peak membership is that you can access the centre at any point during its opening times (6am-10pm Monday-Friday and 7:30am-6pm Saturday/Sunday).

Sport Lancaster offers a “Try Before You Buy Membership” so you can trial a Peak Membership before you commit full-time. This membership costs £20 and you can buy it from reception on your arrival or by the phone number on the website.

Off-Peak Membership

The Off-Peak membership costs £150.50 for nine months, £184.50 for a year, or £17.60 per month via direct debit.

This membership also includes the fitness suites, swimming, group exercise classes, and sauna and steam, but the access times are limited. Off-Peak members can only access Sport Lancaster between 6am-2:30pm on Weekdays, but can enter all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are pros and cons to both memberships, but it’s totally personal preference.

If you’re an early bird, save yourself some money… go ahead and catch that worm.

R0ck and Racket Membership

This membership costs £239.20 for nine months, £317.20 for a year, and £30.15 per month via direct debit.

We’re super lucky at Lancaster that we also have a climbing wall and the availability for racket sports (i.e. tennis and badminton). If this is all you wish to do at the gym, the Rock and Racket membership includes the climbing wall, all racket sports, and racket hire.

There are also options to add Rock and Racket access on to the Peak and Off-Peak memberships for a little bit extra.

Prices correct as of August 2025.
