Hear me out: Toni made a bad Love Island decision, but she deserves to be cut some slack

You have to follow your heart over stringing people along

Love Island 2025 will go down in history for many things. Mainly for being the first season in god knows how long that’s been allergic to being boring. A rarity, in this day and age. We have seen a villa that is more divided than ever before, and a season that has been on such unstable ground with any actual love it’s hard to believe the final isn’t a million miles away. Last night was truly one of the most emotionally turbulent and jaw dropping Love Island episodes ever to air, and at the centre of it all is Toni. And Harrison, but I wouldn’t write a hear me out about him. Toni however, has been instrumental at every turn of making this season of Love Island its peak – and after her recoupling decision last night throws her support into a dumpster fire, I want to cut through the noise and shed some light on why she deserves a bit of grace.

A quick saga summary

Toni has been at the forefront of MLIGA – Make Love Island Great Again. Who knew an American bombshell could be such a breath of fresh air? She’s stood up for her friends, she’s called out Meg and Helena, she told Emily what for and she had ups and downs with Harrison.

After they both recoupled – with Lauren and Cach respectively – there was something in the air between Toni and Harrison. However, he slept with Lauren twice in the past few days since Casa and Toni repeatedly had stated she was done with him but something was clearly not done. The pair are drawn to each other.

Last night, in a hugely shocking last minute decision after Harrison pleaded with Toni to pick him in the recoupling, Toni did choose Harrison and gave him another chance. This decision put the villa in uproar, especially the distraught Lauren, and has seemingly lost a lot of support for Toni on social media. Where she previously, along with Shakira and Yasmin, were the favourites.

You might not agree with Toni because you don’t like Harrison, but surely you can see that despite the nation’s love for Cach – it’s crueller for her to pick him when her head and heart are elsewhere.

Harrison is the villain, not Toni

Harrison has played a manipulative game – but I do honestly think he and Toni have a spark. I don’t know if you will all think I’m crazy for thinking that, but the pair of them have a chemistry that you can’t deny. This doesn’t mean it’s a good thing or that Toni should go back there, but it means that I can understand why she would go there. And sometimes you have to make those mistakes – or you sit and wonder what if. It doesn’t matter if everyone tells Toni to bin Harrison off – she has to explore that last bit of tension to know herself. And that alone is enough for me to afford her some slack after Toni left every jaw on the ground in last night’s Love Island recoupling.

What hurts the most and why I will sympathise with Toni despite a decision that’s getting her crucified by the viewers, is that I don’t think we’d be in this place if she knew that Harrison had slept with Lauren twice. Full out. That breach of trust and lack of transparency not just from Harrison (who’s so slimy, I’m shocked he’s actually saying it in tonight’s episode) but from Helena and Meg who refused to tell Toni the full situation has led to Toni making a decision she might not have made if she wasn’t fully informed. Surely even the biggest critic right now can sympathise with that?

Toni’s mum has posted a heartbreaking video talking about how disappointed she is in her daughter – and how worried she is for Toni too. I’m sure Toni will be leaving this villa to a shitstorm – mostly when she gets home – but right now we just have to sit back and clench our bumcheeks. I’m praying for you, queen.
