The ultimate Edinburgh hot chocolates to toast the end of exams

Trading venoms in for something that won’t ruin your liver x

Even with the recent surge of gorgeous weather, I’m sure I’m not the only one who always has a special place in my heart for a cheeky hot chocolate.

For those who share my sweet tooth, I’ve done the research for you, so without further ado, here are the five best hot chocolates in Edinburgh.

5. Uplands Roast

Living our TikTok dreams

Anyone who’s anyone in Edinburgh knows about Uplands Roast. With its DJ decks and its cute yellow signpost, a trip to Uplands Roast can be hard to resist.

Situated on the edge of The Meadows by the library, it’s the perfect treat on your walk back from George Square. That being said, whilst the famous Proper Hot Chocolate is beautifully presented, the hot chocolate itself is not unbeatable. Definitely worth a try however, even if just for the vibes alone.

4. Cuthbert’s Deli + Cafe

For those who reside in Marchmont, this is a great little spot

Previously known as Red Box, it’s located on Spottiswoode Road and has a range of hot chocolates options, including a white chocolate turmeric one (niche, I know, but also delicious).

Undeniably, Cuthbert’s is a solid choice, offering good quality and large hot chocolates. But although it has its charm, some others may still have the edge.

3. The Edinburgh Coffee Lounge

At Christmas time particularly, this is the place to be

I had to give The Edinburgh Coffee Lounge a shout out as not only is it great for hot chocolate, but also if you’re looking for a place to sit and chill. Whether you’re there to revise, for a coffee and catch up or just to treat yourself a little, I couldn’t recommend a more lovely environment.

Plus you’ll never get bored with the hot chocolate specials menu constantly shifting – the one shown above was a malteser seasonal special.

2. Mimi’s Bakehouse

Sidenote: The French toast there is to die for

Mimi’s is a brand that specialises in all things sweet, so naturally they make a stunning hot chocolate.

It’s impossible to regret a trip to Mimi’s – do yourself a favour and get a sweet treat to go. This one can be slightly further afield with locations ranging from Market Street to Leith; trust me when I say, the journey is well worth it.

Warning, once you start you’ll never stop – time to get a sugar daddy to fund that Mimi’s addiction x

1. Alandas Gelato

Is it a bit pricey? Yes, but with very good reason

This competition was truly over once Alandas Gelato entered the chat. You might have already popped in to try the ice cream (also incredible by the way) without knowing the ultimate hot chocolate was right there in front of you.

Made using actual Belgian chocolate from their in-store chocolate tap, the Alandas signature hot chocolate is exactly what it says on its website: ‘Pure melted luxury’. Go try it, I dare you – you’ll all thank me later x
