Everything we know after influencer was shot dead mid livestream by alleged cartel hit men
People are saying she predicted her death just moments before
Authorities in Mexico are currently working tirelessly to find the murderer of Valeria Marquez, a beauty influencer who was fatally shot during a live stream with her loyal followers.
On Tuesday, May 13, a horrific shooting sent “shockwaves through Mexico” after Valeria Marquez was gunned down in her place of work in the city of Zapopan, in Jalisco. She was live streaming to her 105k TikTok followers at the time, with many of them initially believing it was a prank. Though the story is ever evolving as police investigate the crime, here’s everything we know so far.
Valeria Marquez was shot three times
Last week, a masked man posing as a delivery driver arrived at Blossom The Beauty Lounge accompanied by another man on a motorcycle. According to CBS, they claimed to have a “very expensive” gift for Valeria that they had to deliver in person.
“I was doing some things today, and Erika called me and said, ‘Hey, babe, they’re bringing you something, and I don’t know what, but they want to give it to you,” Valeria said during the livestream, according to Aljazeera. “I said, ‘Oh, I’ll be there in about an hour,’ and the delivery guy said, ‘I’d better wait for her because it’s really expensive.’
The article further detailed how Valeria said “He is coming” as the so-called delivery driver entered the salon, with him asking, “Hi, are you Valeria?”
She muted the live stream after that, but just moments later, two shots were fired, one in the head and one in the chest. When officials arrived, they found the influencer in the same chair she had streamed from, a stuffed animal still in her arms.

The prosecutor’s office said: “According to the initial investigation, she was in her establishment when a man entered and apparently shot her several times with a firearm, killing her.”
People say she predicted her own death
People on TikTok, and even a few mainstream publications, have claimed that Valeria somehow knew that something was about to happen.
While discussing the delivery with her followers earlier in the scene, she said: “Dude, they might’ve been about to kill me.”
People think the men were hired hit men
Though there have been multiple reports claiming Valeria was dating alleged cartel leader Ricardo Ruiz Velazco, also known as El Doble RR, these are yet to be substantiated by official channels.
Instead, Denis Rodriguez from the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office detailed another theory last Thursday. He seemingly believes the two currently unidentified men were hit men hired to kill Valeria for a yet unknown reason.
“The aggressor arrived asking if the victim (Márquez) was there. So it appears he didn’t know her,” Rodríguez said. “With that, you can deduce — without jumping to conclusions — that this was a person who was paid. It was obviously someone who came with a purpose.”
The area is reportedly run by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which has been known to conduct murders by way of hired guns on motorcycles. Just a few hours earlier on the very same day, a former congressman was also killed by two men on a motorcycle. It’s not yet clear whether these two incidents are connected.
More information is expected to follow soon.
