Tired of the library? Here’s a list of all the best study spots on Exeter Uni campus

Finding a space in the library is harder than my degree

With the looming exam season, finding a perfect spot on campus is a MUST if you want to ensure the perfect study session. Whether you prefer a quiet study spot to complete that essay you procrastinated on or thrive in a busy environment, there are many beautiful locations to use on your return to term three.

If you’re tired endlessly wandering the library trying to look for the last remaining seat and bored of returning to that same area, this one is for you. So, grab a sweet treat from the MarketPlace and purchase your favourite caffeinated beverage from Barista Coffee. Here is a comprehensible list of the best study spots on campus. You’re welcome.

1. The Innovation Centre

Located a stone’s throw away from the Harrison Building, this hidden gem is home to a newly renovated study space and offers a range of individual and group study areas.

The Innovation Cafe has a range of hot and cold options including classic jacket potatoes, ready to eat sandwiches and campus coffee. It’s a perfect spot to soak in the views and use the range of facilities. Definitely a “go-to” place on campus.

2. The Loft

Offering some of the comfiest chairs, The Loft offers a quiet study space on the top floor of Devonshire House. Featuring 14 PCs and a variety of individual study areas, the quiet environment ensures the greatest productivity. The Loft is also next to Boba Sushi Poke and the £2 meal deal, making it the perfect study session location.

3. Peter Chalk

With amazing views of campus and outdoor seating, the Peter Chalk Building offers a great spot to people watch between lectures. The building is home to Barisca Coffee Shop, the best place to indulge in a coffee and cake. There’s a wide range of amenities perfect for group study, as there’s plenty of seats and large tables to study.

4. Amory

Among the largest study spaces beyond the library, the Amory includes a diverse selection of study spots. With group study areas, silent study, accessible laptops and bookable study rooms, the facilities provide great opportunities to study. Some of the best sandwiches are available at the Amory, especially the avocado and egg, but be careful of the seagulls. I’m saying this from experience.

5. The Business School

The Business School offers great study spaces, bookable pods and outdoor benches. The La Touche cafe is great for food serving tasty waffle fries. Situated close to Lafrowda, building one of the Business School is great for catching up with friends. The only real negative is the lack of outlets, so make sure to charge up your laptop prior to studying.

6. The Ram

Only the most intellectual (or people who love a pint) consider The Ram a study spot. The Ram has great facilities, including a pool table, to unwind on your breaks studying. With the range of seats, live TV, and outdoor canopies, the beverages hopefully make the studying go faster.

7. The Sanctuary

A simplistic spot perfect for larger group study, the Sanctuary usually has a guaranteed seat. With lots of tables and individual study spaces available, it usually ensures a relatively peaceful atmosphere for tackling essay assignments. The Sanctuary can be temperamental and is used during exam seasons and closes often for events, so keep an eye out.

8. Devonshire House

Located across two floors of the Guild, with range of different food outlets like Comida and Boba Poke, Devonshire is the place to be. Though it can be admittedly busy especially at lunchtime, the student’s union offers a bustling environment with lots of seat options. Both floors offer great facilities with movable and comfy chairs, offering a more laid back alternative to the library.

9. The Old Library

Home to the Bill Douglas Library, the Old Library offers lots of individual study spaces to knuckle down on your essay. Its simplistic features are great to ensure concentration. There is however a lack of amenities due to it being built in 1965 but there’s a great coffee machine (but bring your own cup).
