John Kreese was originally supposed to survive his shocking Cobra Kai death in deleted scene

This would have changed the whole ending to the show

One of the most tragic deaths in season six of Cobra Kai is that of John Kreese, who devastatingly got killed in a yacht explosion, or did he?

It seems even the creators of Cobra Kai season six were going back and forth between whether they wanted John Kreese to succumb to the explosion, and floated the idea of him somehow surviving.

So much so that they even shot a now-deleted scene where against all odds he actually manages to survive the blast, however decided against using it in the final cut.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cobra Kai creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz revealed more about the alternate ending.

As to whether John Kreese really is dead at the end of Cobra Kai season six, Hayden admitted: “We didn’t see the bodies! It’s a very wide shot. Kreese has been assumed dead in the past and then pops back up, so we will have to see.”

However, Josh and Jon think he was more likely to have met a sticky end, explaining: “Look at that explosion! Do you know how many staff are on a yacht? Kreese took out like 30 people, they were covered in gasoline! We all assumed when filming that the guys died as a result of that.”

Jon revealed that the team “wanted to leave ourselves options” and so shot an entire scene where John Kreese managed to survive the explosion.

The creators explained: “When we were filming that final montage we have in the finale — currently we land on that magazine, the Sports Illustrated, with Johnny and Daniel on the cover.

“We actually had the camera continue over and we have another magazine that had Terry Silver on it, [with a story about] the mystery of what happened to him.

“We even had Marty there to reach in with his hand and pick up the magazine. While filming it, we knew that it was ridiculous and would not make the cut.”

Whilst season six of Cobra Kai is officially over, does this mean there’s a chance we could see John Kreese in another spinoff? I’m holding out hope.

Cobra Kai season six is available to watch on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
