Crafting fun and getting creative: The Lancaster Tab tries Craft Soc
Looking to try something new or shake up your usual social routine? Craft Soc is the perfect place to get creative
Last term, The Lancaster Tab had the exciting opportunity to attend a vibrant and creative event hosted by the Lancaster University Craft Society (Craft Soc). The event, held on campus, was an inviting space where students could dive into their creative side, away from the pressures of academic life.
How does Craft Soc work?
Craft Society is open to everyone, whatever your skill level. Their events provide an accessible way to try new crafts and the society is free to join! Tickets for their regular crafting events are released on Saturdays at 12pm and are announced on their social media. These regular events provide a great introduction to a variety of crafts. Some of the recent events include tote bag decorating, knitting and crochet.
The event
Craft Soc often collaborates with different societies and student groups. We attended the free colouring event, a collab with Nightline, a confidential listening and support service for Lancaster students.
The event was easy to find, located in Welcome Centre LT2, so we ended up arriving a few minutes early. We joined the crowd of craft enthusiasts ready to be welcomed in to the event promptly at 6.30pm. The friendly greetings from exec members created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were soon directed to a selection of cute pictures ready to be coloured in. After picking our pictures, we grabbed a space at a table. Using the colouring pens provided, we had a lovely time chatting and colouring.
Since the event was part of the activities going on for Nightline Awareness Week, there was a break in crafting to hear more about the work of Nightline and how to get involved with their group.

Why join Craft Soc?
Craft Soc was super welcoming and created a really relaxed environment at the event. It was fun and nostalgic to have the opportunity to be creative and colour in. It made a nice change to socialise over crafts instead of my usual go-to catch up over coffee. We would recommend Craft Soc to everyone. Whether you’re a regular crafter, interested in trying something new or switching up your social activities a bit, there’s something for everyone.
Craft Society events happen from 6.30-8.30pm on Tuesdays.
Tickets can be purchased from the SU website and via Craft Soc’s social media @lucraftsoc on Instagram and Facebook.
