All the drama that went down with Luca and Gemma when he was first on Love Island

He seems so different this time around

Luca Bish is back in the Love Island villa looking for love for a second time on All Stars and people are shocked by how different he is.

The 25-year-old seems so much more mature this time around, opening up about his emotions and even crying over his lack of connection.

When he was first on Love Island, there was quite a bit of drama and the fishmonger was criticized for the way he treated Gemma Owen.

Here’s a reminder of what went down between them.

Luca and Gemma spent most of their time together

Luca appeared on series eight in 2022 and he was originally coupled up with Paige by the public. However, on day five he recoupled with Gemma and they stayed together for the entire series, coming in second place behind Ekin-Su and Davide. However, their experience wasn’t plain sailing.

He was slammed for the way he treated Gemma

He received a lot of criticism from viewers for being misogynistic, a bully and being super controlling towards Gemma. He even got more than 3,000 Ofcom complaints after the movie night challenge.

Luca later apologised, telling Grazia: “There’s certain situations I just can’t justify. I know I was in the wrong.”

“Watching it back, I can hold my hands up and agree with that – I was. There are parts where I’m thinking this is not how I behave on the outside world. Why did I do that?”

He partly blamed the producers for the constant challenges and new Islanders which would “play with your emotions and your feelings” and said: “I’d genuinely just had enough of it.”

“When you’re falling in love with someone you don’t want to see another boy come in and talk to them and vice versa. Obviously, your emotions would be heightened and everything’s so intense in there.”

They split three months after leaving the villa

Just three months after leaving, Gemma announced they had split, writing on Instagram: “To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now. Many of you have been on this journey with us from the very beginning, and I want to thank you for your continued support as we start new chapters,” she added.

Luca clapped back in his break-up statement

It seems like Gemma didn’t consult Luca first, as he then clapped back: “Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my break up.”

“I would have liked some time to process this privately but as you all already now know, sadly Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways,” he continued.

On All Stars, Luca opened up a bit more about the split to Gabby, saying they “were both so young” and the “pressure” after walking out into the “crazy world” after the villa all got too much.

Who have they both dated since?

Since then, Luca dated Italian model Giulia Ciancio in 2024, and Gemma was dating boxer Aadam Hamed in 2023. She was also linked with a posh Polo player, but they are both single again now.
