TikTok slams Spotify Wrapped AI podcast for shocking ‘distasteful’ One Direction message

A TikTok user has shared a disturbing video of their Spotify Wrapped AI podcast talking about One Direction in a way users have labelled as distasteful. The video was posted yesterday as the release of Spotify Wrapped 2024 dominated the internet.

If you are an Apple Music user or you just haven’t done your Spotify Wrapped yet, there’s a new feature this year where two AI podcast hosts talk through your statistics and share insights, although it’s already been slated online. One TikTok user shared a video of their Spotify Wrapped AI podcast talking about One Direction which people in the comments have found pretty shocking.

In the video, the Spotify Wrapped AI podcast can be heard saying: “It’s so cool you know, One Direction are classics.”

The female AI voice then said: “And you even had a seven-day listening streak.”

“Seven days straight? That’s some serious dedication,” the male voice replied.

Controversially, the female voice then said: “I wonder if that coincided with the release of something, maybe a new album or a reunion. It would be really awesome if that happened. It would be a great thing.”

“Maybe there was a One Direction marathon happening?” The AI questioned.

“Maybe you just really love One Direction and just listen to them all the time,” the male voice said. “It’s a great choice but awesome.”

Many TikTok users have been quick to criticise the Spotify Wrapped AI podcast for making these comments about One Direction after the tragic passing of former band member Liam Payne.

“Wow, you’d think AI would know with the amount of coverage on the internet, how’d it miss that reason!” One user wrote.

Another said: “No they did this to me too and it just kept going with me close to tears.”

Somebody else shared their own strange experience with the AI podcast: “My most music listened to day happened to be 11th September, and the hosts were like ‘that day sounds familiar…’ I was like 😳 then they continued ‘yeah! FKA Twigs dropped a new track that day!'”
