Mariah Carey claps back at claims her Spotify Wrapped message was actually AI

She’s not having it

I fear Miss Mariah Carey doesn’t know anything else other than being an iconic festive queen every day of the year, and her response to being accused of using AI for her Spotify Wrapped video is too iconic.

If you’re an Apple Music user or simply didn’t rack up enough hours to qualify for a personalised video from any artist on Spotify, let’s briefly touch upon what a Spotify Wrapped video even is.

Spotify does a very wholesome thing by getting artists to record a brief video thanking their most loyal listeners, who have amassed a hefty amount of hours listening to them over the year.

And obviously Mariah did a video where she thanked her top listeners for their support, explaining it was the “greatest gift” she could ever receive. However, soon upon receiving their Spotify Wrapped video people became dubious about whether the clip was really Mariah Carey or whether it was actually AI.

The video was quickly shared with a lot of people agreeing something looked off with her, commenting: “I think it’s AI. The tone/inflexion she is speaking in just really doesn’t match anything else on screen. It sounds like a prerecorded message, especially when she says ‘thank you soo much.'”

Another added: “The motion/judder of the clip is a telltale sign of AI-generated video.”

However, Mariah Carey clapped back and set the record straight about whether her Spotify Wrapped video really was AI or not. She wrote on X: “Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI?? There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things!”

Finding out Mariah isn’t a fan of a red lip is honestly what’s shocked me most of all here, but at least everything’s been cleared up now.
