Here’s what happened in the I’m A Celeb camp after it nearly got evacuated due to storms

There was a whole game plan to get the celebrities out

Down in Australia, the I’m A Celeb camp was hit with a terrible rainstorm which left campmates and crew nearly needing to be evacuated. Reports from the camp say that parts of the set were heavily damaged, and access routes were swamped by flooding, meaning that last night’s trial was delayed by an hour.

I’m A Celeb hosts Ant and Dec shared videos of their trek to the campsite on Instagram throughout the weekend of heavy rainfall, with key paths submerged underwater making camp nearly inaccessible. Ant said on his Instagram story that the crew “all got texts this morning saying the rain is so bad you might not even make it in today.”

Dec also remarked on the camp’s limited staffing numbers thanks to the severe weather: “It was an effort to get the show on air today. There were only a few people here.”

People were right to be panicking because the storm itself saw a wild 114.5mm of rainfall pour down within just 24 hours, which also raised concerns for the satellite and transmission systems’ integrity.

A source told The Sun: “All the campmates are fine, but producers monitored them on Saturday night as the storm worsened. The crew were struggling to make it on site. At one point there was genuine concern about how much they would be able to film. Fortunately, it calmed down a bit and all was OK.”

An ITV representative that they were ready for no matter what hit them over the weekend: “We have contingency plans in place to cover all weather eventualities, the health and safety of our celebrities is an absolute priority.”

Ant and Dec also explained how one of the bushtucker trials had been “delayed because of the weather” which meant they were down in the trial area “for a lot longer” that day.

“We just have to make sure that the trial that was scheduled is doable in the area that it was. Everything is a little up in the air here,” Dec added for context.

Thankfully, everyone is okay and the chaos of I’m A Celeb will go on!
