Wait, are the I’m A Celeb campmates are allowed to smoke and vape?!

The jungle has very strict rules

From no makeup to not being allowed to swear, I’m A Celeb has a strict list of camp rules – but what about smoking?

We never see the campmates having a smoke or vape, and it’s technically a luxury item that should be banned.

However, the celebrities are actually allowed to smoke, they just have to go to a specific off-camera area to do it.

“If they want a cigarette they have to request one and go off one by one. They come up to the Bush Telegraph, everything goes through there,” Executive Producer Laura Woolf told The Sun.

“They can vape although in New South Wales if they want to smoke nicotine they need a prescription. They are trying to cut down on it.”

So, celebrities are allowed to vape too, but they have to see a doctor before the show and get a prescription first.

On 1 July 2024, Australia introduced a law that all e-cigarettes can only be sold in pharmacy settings, encouraging people to only vape if they are quitting smoking.

The campmates haven’t always had to go to a specific area to smoke or vape though. In the earlier seasons, they used to smoke around the campfire.

A spokesperson for ITV told The Express in 2018: “Celebrities who smoke are allowed to smoke in camp. They have to smoke near the campfire and then put stubs out in the fire.”

“We don’t have an allocation regarding cigarettes. If a celebrity smokes, they can smoke.”

The producer added that “smoking is not hidden on screen,” so you may even catch the celebs smoking on TV in some of the older series’.

A special exception was once made for cricketer Shane Warne, who appeared on the Australian version of I’m A Celeb in 2016.

He was such a heavy smoker that he was given specific smoke breaks because he was so addicted to nicotine. Warne sadly passed away from a heart attack in 2022 while on holiday in Thailand, aged 52.
