American Murder: The Family Next Door quickly became the biggest documentary in Netflix history, telling the chilling story of Chris Watts, and the terrible murders of his wife and children. Now, American Murder is back, this time telling the story of Laci Peterson.
Laci Peterson’s case is widely called one of the most infamous in true crime history, after the seemingly happy and bubbly woman was reported missing on Christmas Eve of 2002, whilst eight months pregnant with her first child.
The Netflix show contains never before seen interviews and footage, to give the case a full breakdown, as more information continues to come to light, over 20 years on.
American Murder: Laci Peterson will cover the infamous case, with new details
On Christmas Eve in 2002, Laci Peterson was reported missing from her home in Modesto, California, while eight months pregnant with her first child.
At the time, it was noted Laci’s husband Scott hadn’t been engaging with the media in the search for Laci, and then, a woman came forward and said she had been dating him. Scott had told the new woman he wanted to be with her forever, and the cloud of suspicion over him then grew thicker.

Police then found evidence that Scott was get prepared to do a runner, and most definitely wasn’t waiting for Laci to come back home safely. The case dominated the media for months, before her body was discovered. Scott was prosecuted for the brutal murders of Laci Peterson and their unborn son. In 2004, he was convicted of two counts of murder, but pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence to this day.
The Netflix synopsis reads: “From director Skye Borgman (Abducted In Plain Sight) comes the definitive examination of the murder of Laci Peterson, the bubbly and beloved young woman who disappeared on Christmas Eve of 2002, while eight months pregnant with her first child.
“The disturbing case captured the nation’s attention, dominating news media night after night as facts slowly but surely led law enforcement to prosecute her husband, Scott Peterson, for her brutal murder — although he pleaded not guilty, and maintains his innocence to this day.
“20 years after Scott’s conviction, this three-part documentary series uses news clips, interrogation footage, and courtroom cameras to bring the dramatic disappearance, investigation, and trial into focus. American Murder: Laci Peterson is coming out on Netflix next week
The series will have three episodes, all of which will be 50 minutes in length. The entire series is coming to Netflix on August 14th.
