Why the rejection therapy TikTok trend will genuinely change your life
No because I am literally fearless now
Rejection therapy seems to be the newest TikTok trend that will allegedly switch up your life for the better and master social anxiety. Imagine asking the bartender if you can make your own drink, asking someone out on the street or even applying to an Ivy League University just for the fun of it. All of these things make me want to curl up in a hole and die.
The likelihood is you’re going to be met with an astounding no: But that’s the whole point of the task. TikToker Sophie Jones has dedicated her page on the platform to encouraging people to step out of their comfort zone and try new things with the goal of becoming more confident in person. And with nearly 100 million views on the hashtag alone, I think it’s safe to say it’s working.
@sophie_jones111 You have to choose to start living. Stop holding yourself back, we only have 1 go at this game called life, so give it your best shot!!š¤ #lifeisshort #liveyourlife #positivemessage
We are a generation raised by our phones, so it’s easy to hide behind the screen and miss out on the life happening in front of us. Sophie’s teaching us to become the best versions of ourselves, and that includes facing potential humiliation to be more confident in our daily lives. Here’s some of the things she’s gotten up to online:
Asking to wear a builder’s hat
@sophie_jones111 The world is full of funny opportunities, youāve just got to ask #rejectiontherapy #builders
Asking to sing with a performer
@sophie_jones111 This is such a core memoryš„¹ #rejectiontherapy #singingasong
Dancing in public
@sophie_jones111 1 month ago I couldnāt even do a twirl in public without feeling like a silly billy #dancinginpublic #dancelikenooneswatching
She is so brave for this one.
Sophie’s TikTok has so many fun ideas you can try out, but the main concept of the rejection therapy trend is to just do things you would love to do if no wasn’t an answer (obvs keep it legal!!) and who cares if it doesn’t work out? The rejection makes you stronger!
Here’s some more fun ideas to try out:
- Compliment someone on the street.
- Call in to the radio.
- Ask for a discount in a shop.
- Introduce yourself to someone in a coffee shop and make a friend.
- DM somebody famous.
- Call somebody instead of text.
