Erryk and Arryk actors were buried in cake and Oreos for House of the Dragon funeral scene
This sounds like an actual dream
Filming a burial scene can never be fun, especially for House of the Dragon but the actors for Ser Erryk and Arryk seem to have had an absolute hoot while shooting their funeral scene. Not only was it their final day of shooting but the actual material they used as soil wasn’t actually dirt at all, but something considerably more tasty.
It turns out the soil that was being used to cover the bodies of Ser Arryk and Erryk during House of the Dragon episode three was actually a mix of chocolate cake and Oreos. I’m sorry but my mouth is watering already. The actors revealed: “What they were chucking on us was about 300 quid’s worth (about $379) of chocolate cake and Oreos all crushed up. It was actually quite an enjoyable experience.”
His brother had a slightly harder time restraining himself not to just eat the delicious crumbs, adding: “They throw it at you on the face and you want to lick your lips and just eat cake. But then it’s like, ‘Oh, we’re meant to be dead here.'” The special effects supervisor, Michael Dawson, confirmed that the soil mix for the scene was 70 per cent Oreo cookies and 30 per cent chocolate cake.
To make the day feel even weirder it was also the twin’s last working day on House of the Dragon, and they felt like getting tons of cake and Oreo crumbs chucked on them was almost celebratory. They added: “We’d finished the job and we were getting buried. So it felt like a celebration because they were chucking cake on us. It was a weird day.”

Episode three director Geeta Vasant Patel also discussed the symbolism behind the shot of them being buried side by side, explaining: “There is so much symbolism in that one image. The brothers represent the two sides. They had hearts and were people of love. But all we see here is death. And the clock is ticking with every bit of dirt tossed upon them.
“Rhaenys knows there is light and pushes for it. She gives one of my favourite lines, ‘We teeter on the point where none of this will matter.’ She’s referring to where it all started. But Rhaenyra is primal in shutting it down. That’s not a conversation she wants to have.”
Well, there you have it. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to see if being buried with Oreos is something I can arrange for my life.
