Made in Chelsea’s Verity Bowditch closes down vegan restaurant after eight months

It’s curtains for the Notting Hill branch x

To add to the long list of Made In Chelsea business flops, Verity Bowditch has closed one of her Clean Kitchen restaurants in Notting Hill just eight months after it opened in June 2022.

According to The Sun, dozens of people had been left jobless thanks to the closure. “It’s a business that isn’t sustainable. They didn’t know what they were doing,” a source said.

One former worker at the chain told the publication: “I was sent an email saying I had lost my job and then I went on Instagram and I saw Verity looking all glamorous and boasting about her international calls.”

The closure and alleged subsequent job losses have shocked fans after Verity last appeared on Made in Chelsea and detailed how busy she was with her successful business.

Verity launched Clean Kitchen in 2021 with YouTuber Mikey Pearce and opened branches on Camden High Street, in Chelsea, at Boxpark Shoreditch, Soho, Notting Hill, and Battersea Power Station after securing £1.4 million in investments.

Reportedly, in its first year, Clean Kitchen sold 50,000 burgers and the business was valued at £7.5million in 2021. Yet, Verity is now facing backlash for branch closures and job losses.

In an email to The Tab, Verity’s business partner Mikey confirmed that Clean Kitchen’s Notting Hill store has closed. “It is our smallest site and we are focusing on sites that follow the same model as our Battersea Power Station store,” he said.

Mikey also clarified that, although their Soho branch was no longer a restaurant, it was still open as “our Head Office and Catering Kitchen” and hadn’t shut down altogether. Although, presumably they’ll no longer need their front of house staff.
