Uber is launching in York today

They’ll be cheaper than other taxis

Everyone’s favourite taxi service, Uber, is launching in York today.

According to an official Uber spokesperson, the popular ride-hailing app will be launched in York at 4pm.

A journey from the University to Kuda would cost as little as £4-5, around a 1/3 cheaper than any of the various taxi companies in York.

The spokesperson went on to say that all drivers would be officially licensed by York Council, and would receive a DBS check. This check is also carried out on Black Cab drivers and care workers.

This comes in light of an article published earlier this year, which revealed a prevalence of fake taxis operating in York and preying on vulnerable students.

Abbie Anderson of Derwent College, had this to say of the news: “I think its great news. I’m always looking to boogie and if I can get into the town centre cheaply and more reliable than other taxi services then I’m a happy camper”.

Expect to see a lot more Toyota Priuses around York very soon.
