Tributes have been paid to York Masters student Daniel Pinfold, who passed away in Alcuin College last week.

The Contemporary History and International Politics student was found in his room by security on September 2.

An inquest has been opened, but police are not treating the death as suspicious – although it is still unknown how he died.

A spokesperson from the University said: “We are greatly saddened about the death of Daniel Pinfold… our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Daniel had been working on his dissertation for his Masters focusing on the Labour Party after he finished his undergraduate degree in 2014.

His head of department, Dr Henrice Altnik, paid his respects in a statement about Pinfold’s “deeply engaged and interested” approach to his work, as well as how he was a “bright and dedicated student”.

He said: “[He was] profoundly engaged with exploring and discussing contemporary politics.”
