Third year hero saves the life of a choking baby girl

The baby was one-day old

| UPDATED Loughborough Loughborough Echo Mike Hardy

Hero Mike Hardy, a Systems Engineering finalist saved a baby’s life as it was beginning to turn blue.

The brave third year is a first responder in the Loughborough area and was on call when he was diverted to the house of a young couple.

The struggling baby was choking and appeared to be turning blue before brave Hardy showed up.

Third year Mike is Level 2 trained which means that he would not normally attend the scene for those younger than the age of 12-years old. Mike told the Loughborough Echo: “Due to the seriousness of the call and proximity they deemed it necessary that I attend.”

21 year old Mike joined the volunteer service after a close friend fell down the stairs at uni and cut his chin open.

The former pupil of the Welbeck Defence College rushed from Tescos to the scene in under ten minutes, before he was joined by paramedics and an air ambulance.

Once Mike has arrived, he put the baby across his knee, and massaged her back. A paramedic team later arrived to administer oxygen to the recovering baby girl.

He hopes to join the Royal Navy once he graduates.
