The game is said to be in memory of Mike “Doc” Holiday, a former head coach who has been credited with mentoring a number of graduates into the professional game.

Vice-Captain Sam Minihan said the standard of the opposition was a mark of respect to how good Luff are.

He said: “Speaking on behalf of the team we collectively can’t wait for this fixture. For a university team to have the opportunity to play against one of the greatest teams in the world shows how respected Loughborough is.

“In preparation for this game we have been training like we would any other match.

“All the lads set an extremely high standard in training and games and demand an elite level performance.

“We have also played in a couple of games against what is seen as superior opposition. We have more than managed to hold our own in these games.

I’m expecting an intense, challenging game. One in which we are more than prepared for.

“We expect a strong Man United team which will play fast, possession based football. I’m sure everyone who comes to watch will see a great game of football.”

Tickets for the match are £5 for students and kick off is at 7:30 pm.
