Leeds pulled off a 27-11 victory to retain the Varsity rugby title in front of 11,000 fans baying for Met blood.

For a moment-by-moment breakdown, check out our live stream of the day’s events.

Great support from Uni fans helped our lads win the Varsity rugby match for the second time on the trot.

Two Charlie Foley penalties and a converted try from Pierce Phillips gave Uni an eight-point half-time lead as a try from Met kept them close.

A penalty try temporarily put Uni 13 points clear but two penalties from Met kept them in the game.

But a late try from Ben Holden for Uni stopped any hints of a Met comeback and secured the rugby trophy for the second time in a row.

The weather didn’t deter everyone from showing their love for Uni

After last year’s tight game, and with the Met captain revealing his side’s confidence after an exclusive interview with The Tab, many believed it would be a tight affair.

But from the off, Uni were determined not to disappoint, shifting the point of attack quickly with pop passes as they drew the Met defence out of shape.

Fans lamented the lack of streakers as they were left to lust over a disciplined performance from the stronger side, but were grateful for the lack of pints of piss being thrown around.

Support.. 11,000 screamed the uni to victory

At half time, twitter was abuzz with confusion as to the total tallies for the day’s Varsity events. However, The Tab was able to confirm that Met had a one-win lead over Uni at 30-29.

A hard-fought win in soggy conditions resulted in the overall Varsity ending in a draw for the first time – allowing Met to retain the trophy.

Stay tuned as The Tab releases more Varsity content throughout the day.
