Fire breaks out on Edinburgh’s Calton Hill

Fire services were called just after 3:15pm on Sunday

A fire broke out on Calton Hill in the centre of Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were attending an incident on Calton Hill, and local MSP Angus Robertson called the scenes “very worrying and dramatic”.

No one is believed to have been injured by the blaze, which has been categorised as a gorse fire.

Videos shared on social media show flames spreading on the southern side of the hill, immediately behind the Old Royal High School.

Those in the city centre reported seeing heavy smoke and flames around 3:30pm. One source told The Edinburgh Tab some people were having difficulty breathing due to smoke.
