VIDEO: Butler vs York Varsity Boat Race

Watch Durham triumph over York… at drinking

Boat Race Varsity

Butler’s athletic elite travelled to Langwith College, York on Saturday for their annual college varsity trip.

The day saw teams undertake gruelling trials of sport, intellect, and pint deletion.

Players were involved in competitions as varied as rugby 7s, netball and University Challenge, and it was in the latter that the drama unfolded.

Netball saw a massive win for Butler

With Butler ahead on points, Langwith were left needing to win the starter question, and answer the remaining three questions correctly for a chance at a draw.

And that they did.

It was then revealed that the entire varsity competition itself was at stake, with the winner of the tiebreaker going on to take the prize.

The challenge? A boat race.

The result? Silly question.

The Tab spoke exclusively to Josephine Butler Sports Officer, Danny Agar.

It was very successful, we beat Langwith at most sports even though none of our teams had full strength sides.”

“As for the boat race, our performance could have been better, but I knew we were going to beat them.”

“Their pub sports teams didn’t even know what a beer leg was.”

Amateurs.
