Police continue investigating the assault of a young woman
Durham police are carrying on their investigations into the assault of a woman on Quarryheads Lane
The Durham Police are continuing to investigate the assault of a young woman last week.
A 20 year old woman was walking on Quarryheads Lane, near the Bill Bryson Library, on the 21st of May at around 6:45. She became aware of a man, who has yet to be traced, walking in the opposite direction, appearing to be following three women. The man then changed direction and began to follow her instead.
He then assaulted her and made various sexual comments. The woman managed to escape, but was left shaken by the incident.
The assaulter has been described as a man of “about 25 years old, 5’7” tall and of chubby build. He is also believed to be cross eyed and was wearing a grey hooded top.”
The Detective Inspector, Traci McNally, said “As part of this investigation I am keen to identify the man shown on the CCTV images. This is in order for him to be eliminated from our enquiries. Since the incident last week my team have been pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and the investigation is very much ongoing.”
The witness has since been identified and was described as “helpful in the investigations.”
She continued to say that “Incidents such as this are highly unusual for Durham, which is generally a very safe city. I have a team of detectives working on this case and we have been following up a number of possible leads in the week since the attack.”
“While we have already spoken to a number of people, I am still appealing for anyone who was in those areas between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday last week to get in touch.”
