Every Easter Holiday hundreds of students from Cambridge, Oxford and Durham descend upon Dublin for four days of sport, socialising and fun. Why? Simple. The Doxbridge Trip.

Doxbridge is the UK’s most famous inter-collegiate sporting competition. Now in its 12th year, it offers a unique opportunity for students from Cambridge, Oxford and Durham to take each other on at a range of sports, including Football, Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Lacrosse. Doxbridge is more than that, though. It is, in the truest possible sense of the word, a tour.

Participants combine three nights spent in the heart of Dublin, one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, with two full days of sporting activity at some of the Republic of Ireland’s best facilities.

The trip is open to men and women alike

Competitive tournaments are organised in a range of 10 sports for Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams. In the past, these tournaments have been dominated by teams from Durham and Oxford. Last year did, however, see a couple of victories for Cambridge colleges, with Trinity and Pembroke triumphing in the Men’s and Women’s Hockey competitions. Jesus College, Oxford took home the spoils in Men’s Football, while Durham colleges won the Women’s Football, Men’s Rugby, Netball and Mixed Hockey competitions.

Perhaps it’s time for Cambridge to step up?

Durham students celebrate scoring a late winner

The other key part of the tour, Dublin’s nightlife, needs no introduction. The pubs and clubs of the city are legendary and participants enjoy free entry to the exclusive Doxbridge party nights at some of the very best venues in the city. Culminating in a trophy presentation ceremony, as well as the crowning of the sports tournament champions, there’s also the coveted Doxbridge Social Award to strive for! Optional excursions, such as a trip to the Guinness Storehouse, are also available to supporters or those in search of day-time diversion.

Trip participants get a taste of Dublin’s legendary craic

All in all, the trip is a brilliant way to kick off the Easter Holidays. And from as little as £179 per person for the coach tour package, it’s great value too. Subject to your numbers touring, group leaders can travel free of charge, so why not get the ball rolling now?
