Would you rather have Yik Yak or the NUS?

We asked you.

This week the radical masses of the National Union of Students Conference voted to heavily restrict anonymous messaging on social media apps such as Yik Yak.

Not content with the current safe space craze going on all over British campuses, the NUS have said that Motion 303 is part of an effort to make social media more “safe” during elections on campus.

To gauge whether the student population thought this was too far, we asked some ordinary students which one they would rather have – the NUS or Yik Yak.

Dave Reynolds, 2nd Year Maths Student – Yik Yak

Big up Yik Yak! We dont wan’t the NUS controlling what we say or do. Our privacy is a human right.

Olly Westhead, 2nd Year Physics Student – Yik Yak

Obviously Yik Yak because the NUS doesn’t really do much for me.

Kenji Capannelli, 2nd Year Maths Student – NUS

I’d have to say the NUS because Yik Yak promotes cyber bullying! I once read a Yak that said long hair on men looked stupid.

Robert Angel, 1st Year Economics Student – Yik Yak

Yik Yak, because it actually represents students’ views.

Tom Bardsley, Social Sciences Research Student – NUS

We need the NUS. It may have its faults but we’re being fucked up the arse by the government and need all the help we can get. It may be inadequate but it is our union.

Jack Ryan – Yik Yak

I’d choose Yik Yak because the NUS has done nothing for me. Neither has Yik Yak but at least its cool.

Dolly Duncan, 2nd Year Spanish and Portuguese – Yik Yak

Yik Yak because it is absolutely hilarious, unlike the NUS.
