He came second in Eurovision 2022, but who actually is Sam Ryder?

I am respectfully asking for Sam Ryder’s hair care routine

Sam Ryder was the UK’s entrant for Eurovision 2022 and made it all the way to second place. But no one seems to know the first thing about him other than the fact he’s got the voice of an angel and his hair is so healthy it makes me want to die of jealousy. Anyway, here’s everything you need to know about how Sam Ryder grew to be the UK’s answer to Eurovision success.

Sam Ryder is from Essex and owned a vegan juice bar

The 32-year-old singer is from Essex and before his Eurovision fame he ran a vegan juice bar with his long-term girlfriend Lois Gaskin-Barber. His real surname is also Robinson, not Ryder.

He became famous from TikTok

Imagine being that talented and so famous on TikTok you’re scouted for representing your country on Eurovision. It’s mad! Like millions of others, Sam became increasingly famous on TikTok during the Covid lockdowns. He covered popular songs by artists such as Queen and Adele. Now he’s got well over 12 million followers and 104.2 million likes.

Sam’s love for singing came to him after his school visit to a nunnery

Sam attended a Catholic secondary school in Essex which is where he found his passion for singing. He was on a trip to a nunnery when he discovered Iron Maiden’s album. And when he was 11, Sam and his mates went to see rock band Sum 41 perform in concert. He told mTV: “Me and my friends went to see Sum 41 when we were in Year 7 and that really fired us up. We wrote a ’10 step plan to getting signed’ in the back of our science books and everything.”

He was inspired to learn the guitar after watching Eurovision in 2006

Sam started playing the guitar back in 2006 after the Finnish rock band Lordi won Eurovision.

He was in a band called The Morning After

According to Sam’s old teacher, Jemma Coleman, he used to be part of a band called The Morning After. She told EssexLive she recalls going to watch Sam and his band perform in Chelmsform High Street as part of a chairty event.
