too hot to handle season two production secrets

All the juicy production secrets from Too Hot To Handle season two

Cam was originally asked to go on Love Island

Too Hot To Handle is officially back in our lives with 10 episodes full of attractive cast members attempting to win $100,000 by not engaging in sexual activity. Though it may seem impossible this year there’s more sex and flirty behaviour than there was in the first season. And that’s not the only thing that’s changed. This season sees a new villa, Covid restrictions and even a whole fake TV show to get the contestants there.

The show was filmed in November last year at the height of the pandemic and according to Cam the cast returned home the day before lockdown. And that’s not all Cam’s revealed. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Cam has spoken about all the juicy season two production secrets of Too Hot To Handle.

They had a personal chef, spent a load of time working out and Cam had to see a doctor for his blue balls. Yes, really. These are the production secrets of Too Hot To Handle season two:

They filmed in Turks and Caicos

This year Netflix moved the show to Turks and Caicos with filming taking place in November last year. The villa is reportedly worth $25million and has two private beaches. It’s got five bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and obviously has a pool and gym.

The audition process involved two phone calls

Last year the contestants were scouted via Instagram and whilst Cam hasn’t confirmed if this was the case this year he did say he had two calls with producers before getting his spot on the show.

He said he spoke to them about his dating life and whether he wanted to commit. Honestly he should have seen it coming. Cam said: “My first call was obviously, ‘Girls, girls, girls, dating, dating, dating’ and then second one was more, ‘What more have you got to offer? Have you got a different side to you?'”

Cam revealed that he had previously been asked to go on Ex On The Beach and Love Island but turned them down. He said he was glad he went on Too Hot To Handle as he felt he got something out of the show and learnt more about himself.

They would hang out with their chaperones during their quarantine period

Before the show began filming all the contestants would quarantine and would be assigned a chaperone. They weren’t allowed their phones but could watch TV and workout.

Cam said he would do three workouts a day just to be busy, he also watched a bunch of films with his chaperone. He said: “Me and my chaperone smashed all the Marvel films. In the days, you just train — I would say I’d swim, but unfortunately I had probably the smallest pool I’ve ever seen, it was a plunge pool, so you couldn’t swim in it. I trained probably three times a day, and then I’d read — that’s a lie, I didn’t read. I bought four books, I didn’t touch any of them.”

The majority of the filming was done with remote cameras

As there were so many scenes which featured the contestants getting very frisky it’s a good thing the majority of the cameras were remotely operated. The only times they used operative cameras was for date scenes and important conversations.

Cam said the operative filming cameras were often quite intrusive in the dates. He said: “Any rule breaks were never operative cameras. That would be really strange — ‘Alright Cam, get in the shower! We’re all just gonna be watching you!’

“It is weird, because you’re on a date with a girl and you’ve got like eight sweaty men around you with their cameras and they’re not saying anything to you. You’ve got to just remember that this is their job and they’re used to that.”

They usually filmed the confessional scenes straight away

via Netflix

It’s often hard to gauge when confessional scenes are filmed but Cam said on Too Hot To Handle they were often filmed straight after the event had taken place in order to keep it fresh in their minds.

He said: “It was mainly done at the present time, otherwise it’s just really hard to try and get your head back in that space.”

They really didn’t do much in the villa

Whilst it may have appeared all they did was break Lana’s rules, most of the time there wasn’t actually much to do. Cam said they would spend their time working out and sunbathing and walking around like headless chickens. That makes complete sense.

He said: “It depends on your storyline — if you’re in scenes or doing social media, some days will be busier than others. If you’re not, I just literally trained, sunbathed — half the time, you walk around, literally like a headless chicken.”

Cam also said the only way they could tell the time is by judging it on their meals as there were no clocks or watches allowed in the villa.

There were restrictions on booze and cigarettes

In the villa the cast were allowed two glasses of whatever alcohol they wanted each night. They were allowed to smoke but they had to have security with them when they wanted a cigarette.

They had a private chef

Last year’s Too Hot To Handle cast raved about their private chef and it seems to be a running theme for season two. Cam said the group still talk about the legendary burgers they were given and also revealed there was a cupboard full of snacks including Gatorade and Animal Crackers.

Cam really had to go to the doctors for blue balls

If you’re a few episodes into the show then you will be all too familiar with Cam’s blue balls problem. We all thought he was exagerrating it but in his interview he stressed the pain he was in and how he had to go to the doctors during the show.

He said: “It was legit a really bad problem, like I couldn’t eat, my stomach hurt, and I felt sick. I actually couldn’t walk for one day. It got so bad that I had to speak to the doctor for it and got painkillers. It was the worst thing in the world, and it’s actually got a name — epididymal hypertension.”
