The last ever Blockbuster store is now an Airbnb and you can stay there for £3

Remember when the highlight of every Friday night was heading down to Blockbuster, renting a classic film and spending all night eating popcorn? It might feel like just a distant memory, but it doesn’t have to be any more as the last ever Blockbuster store has been converted into an Airbnb.

Yes, you can actually relive your childhood sleepovers in a real life Blockbuster store, kitted out with movies, bean bags and a flat screen television. The store manager, Sandi Harding, has listed it on Airbnb for people to book a stay in Deschutes County, Oregon.

You’ll have to race to book the room, as it opens for bookings on the 17th August. There will be three one night stays available on the 18th, 19th and 20th for up to four people.

You get the entire store to yourself, which comes with a sofa that folds out into a double bed and an additional airbed. It also comes with nostalgic 90s snacks like Nerds on the shelves.

And the room itself costs no more than renting an old film would, it will be $4 (£3.07) per night.

The Airbnb description adds: “As the last standing location in the world, our BLOCKBUSTER store is an ode to movie magic, simpler times and the sense of community that could once be found in BLOCKBUSTER locations around the world. Over the past few months, we’ve been missing the regular visits from friends, neighbours and tourists from around the world. So, we’re opening our store to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night, just like those of decades past!

“Whether you want to stay up until sunrise or pass out on the couch, we’ve created the perfect space complete with a pull-out couch, bean bags and pillows for you to cozy up with ‘new releases’ from the ‘90s. Crack open a two-litre of Pepsi before locking into a video game, charting your future in a game of MASH, or watching movie after movie. But be wary of reciting ‘Bloody Mary’ in the staff bathroom off of the break room, as you just may summon the ghost rumoured to haunt the store. And help yourself to some NERDS, Raisinets and popcorn (heavy on the butter), but make sure you save room for a couple slices.

“And remember, the store is all yours for the night! So let loose, blast the boombox and wear your favourite ‘90s denim so that you feel right at home in another era.”
