Ex-Burger King employee says she worked multiple 12-hour solo shifts, and is now planning to sue
She is exploring her legal options
Nykia Hamilton, the ex-Burger King employee from South Carolina, has now revealed she worked multiple 12-hour solo shifts, and says she’s planning to sue the company.
So, a customer filmed Nykia running an entire Burger King restaurant by herself. She was at the till, cooking, bagging orders, and cleaning, literally doing everything alone. The clip quickly went viral on TikTok, with people nicknaming her the “Burger King Mom.”
But just weeks later, Nykia revealed she had been fired. She explained that she’d been late for shifts because of childcare. She said in a video, “[Burger King] fired me because I’ve been late because of my kids. My kids come first. Y’all don’t pay for no babysitter or nothing.” Speaking to WACH FOX, she added that being a single mum made it difficult to juggle childcare with her demanding shifts, though she always gave her best.
Burger King soon responded to the backlash. A spokesperson told the New York Post, “Terminations are the decision of the franchisees who own and operate the BK restaurant. In this situation, the franchisee confirmed that the individual involved is no longer employed due to repeated attendance issues.”
The company also admitted that “no worker should ever be left to run a restaurant alone,” adding it was “disappointed” the policy wasn’t followed.

But according to the Daily Mail, that wasn’t the only time. Nykia revealed she had some help the following day. But by the end of the week she was back on another solo 12 hour shift from 11am to 11pm. It’s not clear whether any internal action was taken against the franchise after these incidents.
Also, Nykia is now exploring legal options and intends to sue Burger King for unfair dismissal.
Despite everything, her story has also sparked an incredible wave of support online. Her GoFundMe campaign has now raised over $135,000, far surpassing its original target. And she’s already carving out a new career as both a content creator and entrepreneur.
