Fired ‘Burger King mom’ who ran restaurant alone for 12 hours reveals her new job

Her GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $108,665

A single mom who went viral after running a Burger King restaurant all by herself for 12 hours has revealed her surprising new job after being fired.

Nykia Hamilton, 25, was filmed rushing between the fryer, counter and drive-thru, cooking, cleaning and serving customers completely alone. The clip went viral on TikTok, with many praising her dedication as she explained she was doing it all for her three children.

Despite the attention and admiration, Nykia later revealed that Burger King had fired her. In a TikTok video, she explained, “[Burger King] fired me because I’ve been late because of my kids. My kids come first. Y’all don’t pay for no babysitter or nothing.”

She told WACH FOX that being a single mum made it impossible at times to juggle childcare and long shifts, but insisted she had always tried to give her best.

Following the backlash over Nykia being fired, Burger King released a statement. It told the New York Post, “Terminations are the decision of the franchisees who own and operate the BK restaurant. In this situation, the franchisee confirmed that the individual involved is no longer employed due to repeated attendance issues.”

It also addressed her 12-hour shift working alone, saying, “We’re disappointed that our policy wasn’t followed.”

After getting fired, Nykia has rebranded herself as a content creator and entrepreneur, regularly sharing videos with her growing audience on TikTok. She’s also using her platform to inspire others and talk about life as a single parent.

In one recent TikTok, she revealed she’s working on launching her own nonprofit called Hands Helping Hands. “I’m looking for sponsors to open a support group called Hands Helping Hands. It’s to help any single parent, single mom, single dad, anybody who needs any help, period. I want to make this a nonprofit organisation to help other people out,” she said.

With a GoFundMe campaign already raising over $108,665, Nykia hopes to use her platform to not only support her own family but also create a safety net for others in similar situations.
