Every single wild Donald Trump death hoax, and what he was *actually* doing at the time

This weekend he was literally just at the golf

This weekend, US president Donald Trump faced a wild death hoax, as the internet collectively believed he was dead, and had been for days. Following a brief time of no public appearances, and some comments made about his general health, people started questioning if he had passed away.

It was of course just rumours, and Trump has spoken out since. But, this isn’t the first time this has happened. There have been multiple times the apparent death of Donald Trump has swamped us. Here’s a rundown of what happened, and where the president *actually* was at the time.

August 2025

The most recent Donald Trump death hoax was this weekend, when seemingly out of nowhere “Donald Trump is dead” was trending on Twitter. Earlier in the week, people noticed Donald Trump had a pretty sizeable bruise on his hand, and JD Vance had made comments about being ready to step into the president role, should a “terrible tragedy” strike.

People noted Trump had “not been seen in three days” with one tweet claiming: “Donald Trump is dead. He has been since Wednesday.”

It turned out Trump literally just didn’t have any scheduled appearances, and he was instead at a golf course. Obviously!

September 2023

Probably the most wild of every Donald Trump death hoax came in 2023, when his own son was the one behind it. Donald Trump Jr. tweeted: “I’m sad to announce, my father Donald Trump has passed away. I will be running for president in 2024.”

He later said his account had been hacked, and Donald Trump was just going by his normal life.

November 2022

In 2022, a comedian said that Trump “sounds like he’s dying” and next thing, the internet was running with it. Tim Heidecker, one half of comedy duo Tim & Eric, shared a clip of Trump speaking on Twitter, and added: “‘I think in fact that maybe he is and could possibly have a very grave disease of which he is dying from.”

People on Twitter then started to discuss what might have killed Trump. At the same time, a CNN article entitled “Donald Trump dead at 76” was being spread. It was of course fabricated. A spokesperson for CNN told Reuters: “CNN did not report this.”

He wasn’t dead, and was instead just preparing to run for president again.

June 2020

Around the time of the pandemic, rumours began circulating that Trump had died. It was claimed he’d taken an overdose of hydroxychloroquine, a controversial coronavirus treatment. It was all started by a random 18-year-old on TikTok, and next thing “RIPTrump” was all over the app. An image then began circulating of a fake New York Times article, confirming the news.

At the time, the president was alive and well and had numerous public appearances. Trump was actually overseeing emergency relief for the US Virgin Islands after a tropical storm.
