‘I had to’: Chris Watts said he had ‘no control’ over committing his disgusting crimes

This week, news has emerged that killer Chris Watts is getting remarried in prison. And now, a chilling interview Chris Watts gave at the time of his crimes has resurfaced.

Chris Watts is currently serving a life sentence with no chance of parole, after he murdered his pregnant wife and their two young children. In 2018, a pregnant Shanann Watts and her two young daughters, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste, went missing from their family home.

A friend informed police, and they were all reported as missing. In the days following, Chris Watts appeared to be a loving father and husband who just wanted to know what had happened to his family.

But, he had killed them. He had been having an affair, and has since seemingly confirmed his motivation was a want to start a new life with the other woman, Nichol Kessinger.

During a February 2019 interview with CBI investigators, Watts admitted the whole truth of what he did. He told the investigators “he felt like someone else had control over him” the day he killed his family, and that “he wasn’t able to fight back.”

He explained that after Shanann returned home from a trip, they had fought. During the argument, he confessed to having an affair and said he didn’t love his wife anymore. When she threatened to leave him and take the children, he jumped on top of Shanann in their bed and strangled her.

“I didn’t want to do this, but I did it,” Chris said during his confession. “I don’t even want to say it felt like I had to; it just felt like there was already something in my mind that was implanted that I was gonna do it, and when I woke up that morning, it was gonna happen, and I had no control over it.”

He later told investigators: “It was like picturing someone around you, holding your hands, holding you and keeping you from letting go.”

Chris Watts has also made further chilling confessions, in letters sent from prison. In the letters, he revealed horrific details about the murders, and said he had been “thinking about killing” his family for a number of weeks before he did.
