Indie artist addresses huge similarities between her old music video and Ariana Grande’s petal

An independent artist has responded to the striking similarities between Ariana Grande’s music video petal, and her own music video from 2016.

Frankie June’s video Hollywood went viral after people noticed parallels between it and Ariana Grande‘s petal. In both music videos, an actor turns up to an audition in Los Angeles, is treated poorly by an executive in an office, is told to wait in a huge queue of women, then ultimately takes violent revenge on the executives.

Both videos have a 1950s colour palette, and include similar images such as the actor walking over a Hollywood star, and a queue of women in brightly-coloured dresses performing stylised choreography and head turns.

Frankie June has spoken out about these parallels. She said on her TikTok:  “So, everybody has been texting me this week asking, ‘Have you seen the new Ariana Grande petal music video? It’s super similar to your Hollywood (2016) music video?’ And so, I just wanted to weigh in.

What is so wrong in Hollywood right now that me and Ariana both resonated with this story, where you literally see the talent in an office/audition type scenario jumping over the desk to exact revenge on this Hollywood exec archetype? That says a lot.

“So, Ariana, I’m so sorry that you resonated with that story in the same way that I did … Ariana, we’re obviously on the same wavelength!”
