Wait, here’s what’s going on with all those rumours claiming Donald Trump is dead

‘Donald Trump is dead. He has been since Wednesday’

You might have woken up this morning to see loads of people saying US president Donald Trump is dead. Wild speculation has spread across Twitter and TikTok, and people are posting what they’re calling “evidence” and making huge claims.

Earlier in the week, people noticed Donald Trump had a pretty sizeable bruise on his hand, and next thing you know, people are saying he’s dead. The White House currently has its flags at half-staff today, which has further fuelled the rumours. Here’s what we *actually* know.

Why do people think Donald Trump is dead?

Right now, “Donald Trump dead” is trending on Twitter. The conspiracy theory appears to have come since Trump hasn’t been spotted for a few days, and apparently doesn’t have any scheduled public appearances this weekend.

People noted he’s “not been seen in three days” with one tweet claiming: “Donald Trump is dead. He has been since Wednesday.”

Ongoing health concerns with the president haven’t helped. In July, the White House confirmed he has a vein condition known as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), which causes the legs to swell. Over the past few months, he’s also been photographed with a mysterious mark on his hand. A doctor told The Tab “the most likely thought is this could well be bruising from a recent cannula from the way it appears.”

They added: “The White House representatives have suggested Donald’s bruise is from constantly shaking hands with people, however I would be concerned if this was indeed the case of blood thinning drugs or skin delicacy.”

The rumours have also been fuelled by a recent interview with JD Vance. He was asked if he’d be ready to step into the president role, should a “terrible tragedy” strike. JD Vance said “tragedies happen” and that he’s had a lot of training, should he need to step up.

He told USA Today: “Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”

Why are The White House flags at half-staff today?

The flags at The White House being at half-staff is unrelated. They’re being flown that way today as a mark of respect for the victims in Minneapolis. On August 27th, 23-year-old Robin Westman walked into a church during morning Mass and opened fire, killing two children and injuring 17 others. 14 of those injured were children, and three were parishioners in their 80s.

No official line from The White House has debunked the rumours yet.
