Selena Gomez to Squid Game: All the celebs and shows snubbed in the 2025 Emmy nominations

Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, and there were a few tough blows to old fan favourites Squid Game and The Handmaid’s Tale, who lost out on big category nominations.

In wake of the news, we’ve pulled together all the the 2025 surprise Emmys snubs right here. So settle in to see the shows and actors who didn’t make the cut, because you won’t be seeing them at the Emmys.

Out of all the 2025 Emmys snubs, this one came as a surprise. The show broke the internet last year, enthralled viewers and scooped up six Emmys – which is why it’s so surprising that the second season didn’t even crack a nod.

The snub is particularly disappointing for Choi Seung-hyun, the actor who delivered a stunning performance as purple haired Thanos.

You know that feeling when all your friends did well on a test but you didn’t? I think that’s probably similar to the feeling Patrick Schwarzenegger is having right now.

With such a stacked cast, it’s not surprising that Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Sam Rockwell and Walton Goggins were all nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress/Actor in a Drama Series. But spare a thought for poor Patrick who was left off that list.

The new Bridget Jones movie was released as a regular film in the UK, but was made eligible for the Emmys TV movie category because the film streamed on Peacock in the US.

Her eligibility unfortunately didn’t translate to a nomination though and we will have to console ourselves Bridget Jones style with ice cream on the couch. 

The Handmaid’s Tale

This series roared into Emmy nominations when it first came out, scooping up nominations for almost every season. Until now, where its dystopian plot line is likely too close to reality to make for comfortable viewing anymore. 

Hot Ones

The vibrant interview show was also not nominated at the Emmys this year despite claiming massive internet traffic and attracting some of the biggest stars in music and film. This is likely to do with the fact that it streams on YouTube, which might be a step too far for traditional Emmy panel voters.

After being nominated for both a Golden Globe and a SAG award for his role as an assassin in the tightly filmed Day of the Jackal, it’s unusual that his performance was not nominated by the Emmys.

We hope he doesn’t take the snub too hard, or the Emmys might have to worry about an angry assassin on the loose.

This mega-popular series has never been nominated at the Emmys and it’s starting to seem ridiculous.

Last year, both Selena and Martin Short were nominated for their roles in the comedy/drama series, but its fourth season bid saw only Martin receive a nomination. Maybe this means we’ll be getting a new sad song from Selena soon??

Allison Janney in The Diplomat

The second season of The Diplomat was not a rousing success for Allison, who failed to receive an Emmy nomination for playing Vice President Grace Penn. You would think she’d be able to do something about that given that soon she’ll be playing the President of the United States #thatismypresident.

The actress appeared upset this week after receiving news that she did not receive a nomination for her role in Netflix’s drama You. Taking to Instagram, she posted: “Me reading about the nominations this morning knowing I gave one of the best performances of my life while also trying to be happy for everyone and while also remembering I vowed to stop drinking during the week.”

Anna Camp didn’t take her placing on the list of 2025 Emmys snubs lightly.

This year’s Emmys saw the number of nomination places for Outstanding Talk Series shrink to only three nominees. As host of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Seth was boxed out by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Daily Show. Doesn’t mean I won’t be tuning in to listen to all the drama regarding Emmy snubs though!

And those who were nominated?

Just because there were a few surprise snubs doesn’t mean that the nominations weren’t well deserved. Severance, Adolescence and The Studio all cleaned up nominations. 15-year-old Owen Cooper was nominated for his role as the troubled Jamie Miller in Adolescence, making him the youngest ever nominee in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. 

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story also scooped up nominations (which is great for all of us who watched that one edit of Nicholas Alexander Chavez over and over again on TikTok last year).

Out those who were snubbed and those who were nominated, the real winners are actually us because we got to watch some fantastic TV this awards cycle.
