Ok, there are some crazy similarities between Gilmore Girls and Ginny and Georgia
Is it fair to say that Ginny and Georgia is the true crime 2020s version of Gilmore Girls?
Ginny and Georgia season three graced Netflix this summer and if you can’t seem to shake the feeling this mother-daughter duo is scarily familiar, you wouldn’t be wrong. From the relationships, small town drama and even fashion, Ginny and Georgia has practically emerged as Gilmore Girls‘ younger Gen Z sister.
Aside from a Mayoress Murderess, the trials and tribulations of the online world, and some unexpected musical moments, here is a comprehensive rundown of how Wellsbury matches up to the beloved Stars Hollow – because there are some crazy similarities between Ginny and Georgia and Gilmore Girls…
The mother daughter relationships are more like besties than parent and child

via Netflix
Gilmore Girls and Ginny and Georgia both revolve around a mother/daughter duo where the boundaries are slim and friendship seems to take priority over traditional parenting.
Both shows create a unique and sometimes messy dynamic as the pairs love to overshare their dating lives, constantly hang out with each other and even indulge in petty arguments. Whilst Rory never went as far to lie in court to save Lorelai’s face, it’s fair to say that ride or die loyalty is always prioritised over sensibility or rules.
The small town vibes are strong

Stars Hollow and Wellsbury both seem to be places where for better or worse everyone knows everyone. Lorelai and Rory can never seem to do anything in peace without the likes of Babette or Miss Patty instantly finding out and its fair to say Ginny and Georgia cannot escape judgement towards their unconventional lifestyle (aka having your mother being at the centre of a murder trial).

Additionally, with the leading love interest owning the local independent cafe which also doubles as each town’s social hub, Joe Singh’s Blue Farm cafe is basically Luke’s Diner 2.0 – aside from the fact Luke would never have tolerated that amount of chaos or mobile phone usage under his watch.
Academically gifted daughters

via Netflix
If Rory and Ginny were in the same class at school you know the academic competition would be at an all time high. Whether it is deciding between going to Harvard or Yale or becoming the Boston Youth Poet Laureate, it is clear that both daughters have strong educational ambitions.
However, the stress of school seems to get the better of Rory and Ginny at times as they both share the same intense pressure to succeed and the desire to forge a more conventional life than their mothers.
Lots of messy family drama

via Netflix
Generational family drama is very much present in both of these shows. Lorelai and Georgia have rocky relationships with their parents, and both want to prove that they can do better for their own children.
The constant feud between Emily and Lorelai is also reminiscent in the relationship between Georgia and Zion’s mother Lynette. It is easy to see how Emily and Lynette rival each other in their ability to insert themselves into familial situations where they are definitely not wanted.
All the love triangles

via Netflix
Ginny and Georgia follows in the footsteps of Gilmore Girls’ O.G. love triangle, cue the team Jess or team Dean debate… (Jess is the only acceptable answer btw). Whether it is Marcus and Hunter, or this season, Marcus and Wolfe, Ginny is a lot like Rory as she gets herself into complicated romantic situations.
Marcus is basically the Jess Mariano of Wellsbury, he’s mysterious, troubled, and totally aloof – yet clearly the right option for Ginny.
These two are both technically troubled teens who fell in love with a girl, i.e. Rory and Ginny.
An abundance of iconic outfits

via Netflix
Both Lorelai and Georgia now how to pull off a major fashion moment and are envied for their unique, fabulous tastes. If given the chance, I would definitely like to go shopping with these two. These young mothers know how to push the fashion boundaries but somehow always look great doing it.
The shock factor of Georgia’s outfit for her first day at trial was reminiscent of the eyebrow raising tie-dye tee and shorts combo Lorelai wore for Rory’s first day of Chiltern. However unpredictable their lives may be, you can always rely on Lorelai or Georgia for a memorable look.
Both Rory and Ginny’s fathers are pretty absent too
Another one of the similarities between Ginny and Georgia and Gilmore Girls are the father figures. Both Chris and Zion are pretty preoccupied.
And both Ginny and Rory have a rocky end to their first relationships
We know Rory cheats on Dean and pretty much breaks his heart, and of course Ginny sleeps with Marcus after Hunter dismissed the way she felt about the English teacher.
