Sam Thompson praised for opening up about receiving life-changing diagnosis

‘I really hope that I can be a small part of young people accepting themselves for who they are’

Sam Thompson has been praised for opening up about his recent life-changing medical diagnosis.

Back in 2023, Sam shared that he had been diagnosed with ADHD, after suffering with disorganisation, hyperactivity and inattention.

The Made in Chelsea alum is hoping that by speaking up about his medical conditions, that he can be “a small part of young people accepting themselves for who they are”.

So, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to viewers that Sam has used his platform to inform and educate about his new diagnosis.

After living with his aforementioned symptoms, Sam started looking into the root causes of them when he turned 30 as a way to become more “self-aware”.

However, Sam, now 32, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with autism.

In a recent Instagram Reel, titled: “You got diagnosed with ADHD in your late twenties but something still doesn’t add up,” he openly reveals his new autism diagnosis.

In the video, which now has 3.2 million views, Sam can be seen subtly revealing he has the condition with a T-Rex labelled “autism” pointing at him.

This led to a flurry of comments from followers, praising him for his advocacy and openness.

One Instagram user said: “Thank you, as always, for raising awareness and being a great role model.”

Another added: “A guy not being afraid to speak up and share his diagnosis and doing it with humour, is a superpower in my opinion. That kind of openness will definitely help others on their journey too.”

Sam has also previously taken to social media to talk about his neurodivergence and show support for young people with the same conditions.

In one Instagram post, he said: “When I was in school, I wished I had someone to tell me that I was ok, and someone to tell me that it wasn’t because I was stupid, I didn’t care, and that I was intentionally not paying attention.

“It was because I had undiagnosed ADHD. I really hope that I can be a small part of young people accepting themselves for who they are, neurodiverse or not.”
